There’s something powerful about a room full of small business owners. On the morning of April 22nd, from 9 to 11 a.m., Zenia Omaha, the event space tucked away just off 192nd & Harney, came alive with that energy during the Small Business Owners’ Alliance (SBOA) Quarterly Open House & Networking Event. The buzz of conversation, the warm scent of freshly brewed Hay Jay Coffee from their coffee truck parked just outside, and the friendly connections being made made it clear — this wasn’t your average networking morning.

Hosted by SBOA and spearheaded by Nicole of AcuHawk Insurance (who truly goes above and beyond to bring people together), this quarterly gathering was a vibrant celebration of local business. It was also free to attend, which made it even more accessible for Omaha-area entrepreneurs, freelancers, and supporters of small businesses.

A Showcase of Local Talent

The event featured table sponsors, each representing a different business or service. From creatives to coaches to event professionals, the variety of industries represented made it easy to find meaningful connections. I had my own banner set up showcasing the niches I photograph — family portraits, high school senior sessions, horse & rider imagery, and equine events — and a cozy corner where I offered professional headshot sessions.

These headshots were available by pre-registration and also to a handful of folks who signed up on the day of the event. I also snapped a few event images to capture the atmosphere and provide some visuals for SBOA and attendees to enjoy. (If you were there, you just might spot yourself the gallery of images below!)

A few of the headshot clients I was lucky to photograph, from above left to right, included:

It was such a joy to meet with and photograph these professionals — each one passionate about what they do and how they serve their clients and community.

More Than Just Networking

While the event itself only lasted two hours, the impact felt much bigger. I left with my cup (and heart) full — energized by conversations, inspired by others’ stories, and simply grateful to be part of the Omaha small business community.

One of the best parts of events like this? The human element. The laughs shared over coffee. The stories told between introductions. The simple joy of being in a room with people who get it — the highs, the challenges, and the why behind running a small business.

If you’re looking to build your network, I can’t recommend checking out the Small Business Owners’ Alliance enough. In addition to these quarterly events, there are several chapter meetings throughout the Omaha area. I personally attend Chapter 3 in Papillion every other Tuesday — and the support and camaraderie there is soul nourishing!

Get Notified About Future Headshot Days

If you missed out on headshots this time — don’t worry! I’m currently planning dedicated headshot session days for June and July. These shorty headshot sessions will be perfect for updating your LinkedIn profile, website bio, or marketing materials with fresh, professional images.

A Final Thank You

To everyone who attended the event — thank you for showing up, connecting, and supporting each other. Whether you stopped by for a chat, grabbed a headshot, or simply soaked in the energy of the morning, I’m so glad we crossed paths.

And to SBOA — thank you for creating a space where small business owners can connect, grow, and thrive. Until the next one!
