August sessions always hold a special place in my heart — and this year’s Sunflowers & Sunshine Sessions felt extra meaningful. They took place on August 23rd, my grandmother Agnes’s birthday (the very same Agnes my daughter is named after). There was something fitting about spending the evening surrounded by sunshine and blooms — laughter floating through the air, warm light wrapping around the families, and that soft hum of summer nearing its close.

This year’s sessions were held at a new spot — Pearson’s Pumpkin Place just outside of Eagle, Nebraska. The field was stunning, bursting with tall sunflowers that seemed to stretch forever toward the sky. Between the color, the light, and the conversation, it was everything I love about photographing families in Nebraska — simple, genuine, and full of heart.
Whether it’s families I’ve photographed before or brand-new faces, these evenings always bring something special. There’s a relaxed, easy rhythm to shorty sessions — just enough time to settle in, laugh, and soak up the glow of golden hour without overthinking a single pose.

Earlier this summer, this same patch of land at Pearson’s Pumpkin Place was overflowing with wildflowers — a softer, pastel version of the same magic that the sunflowers bring later in the season. I love seeing how each field changes through the year, and I’m already planning to offer both wildflower and sunflower shorty sessions again next summer. They’re a bright, joy-filled way to capture your crew right before the seasons shift.
