Margaret | Senior Class of 2021 | North Star High School

Senior girls poses for her high school senior pictures in a field outdoor in Gretna, Nebraska

When Margaret's mama reached out to me wanting to schedule her Senior portrait session, I was excited! Partly due to Senior sessions being one of my favorites to photograph.

As with all of my Senior portrait clients, her parents and her met me for a coffee & smoothies to chat about what they had envisioned for Margaret's session.

I love learning about each Senior! It helps me customized their portrait session to fit their personalities!

We talked about what activities she was in, that she was a top notch violin player and that we shared a bit in common with our love for sunflowers! Margaret is a big reader, too!

We brainstormed, planned, prepped and brainstormed some more. I wanted her session to be 100% full of her personality. She wanted rustic outdoors vibes with hints of Fall and lots of golden sunshine. You know, a photographer's dream!

What I didn't know what how big Margaret's love of pumpkins was! Partly because she just loves pumpkins and partly due to a job she had, she could tell me a handful of variety of pumpkins and some neat random facts about them! After learning this, of course we had to have them in her Senior portrait session! What kind of Senior Photographer would I be to deny that fun?!

It might have helped that I had a plethora on hand for the upcoming Fall family mini sessions I was soon to be hosting (they happened - they were magnificent! Check out the blog post on them)!

Besides her pumpkin love, Margaret is beautifully talented with the violin. This is totally out of the realm of any of my knowledge, but I will gladly listen to her play her violin anytime. While we laughed at the slight awkwardness of standing in a middle of a field in front of a camera & her parents while playing her violin, she enlightened us all with some beautiful notes!

With her she also brought some of her favorite books. We piled them around her while she sat and laid on a blanket in the sunshine & grass.

She wanted a couple of variety of her with her books so we did!

For the second variety, we used a pocket of sun rays through the trees, backlighting her with golden tones of a midwest Fall.

Of course what do you do when you are snuggled up in a chair with a good book? You have your favorite mug and wrap yourself in a cozy blanket too! Duh! Who could pass that up?!

As with every Senior portrait session, I highly encourage them to have their parents come along and jump in for at very least one photo! This is often one of the few times you have your kiddo pinned down or everyone's schedule isn't taking them in twelve different directions. Mama also had this creative idea to bring along a couple of photos of when Margaret was little, along with her favorite stuffed animal. By this time we were past sunset and the moon was creeping over her shoulder. I think it added quite the touch!

Congratulations, Margaret, on your Senior year of high school! Your Class of 2021 had a wild ride, showing the world you're ready to take on all sorts of challenges!
